99 ranger code p0741 problem

I have a 99 ranger 4.0 4x4 5r55e trans 106000 miles that Im having a horrible time trying to diagnose a problem on. starting and driving cold the trans works as it should but after approx. 12 miles the od light starts flashing and the shifts get harsh till I shut the key off and reset the pcm im getting a code p0741 so I replaced the tcc solenoid and nothing changed replaced the valve body with a new one with new solenoids the problem got worse and more frequent I m noticing on my scan tool that the temp sensor is reading 287 degrees yet i can hold my hand on the pan no problem I dropped the pan and got the valve body wire harness off and in the cool air and the trans temp still read 158 degrees, yet Im not getting an overheat code just this 741 code can the high reading on the temp thermister cause my problem even though a codes not being set for it when warm. Im pulling what is left of my hair out trying to figure this out .. fluid is bright red no friction material in pan readouts on scan tool show lockup until up to temp and at least 12 miles ...any ideas as to where to turn Thanks in advance and sorry so long a letter

Welcome to this forum! Which place did you get the valve body from? Here's a link for one: http://800700tran.com/prod.itml/icOid/80. They also have a wiring harness if you need one: http://800700tran.com/prod.itml/icOid/410 Did you check to see if your front cooler is clogged?

Thanks for the reply I put a ford valve body in and yes the cooler is flowing checked with infrared and disconnecting return line after cooler. Im at a complete loss as to where to turn now to solve this problem I wish he would just get rid of the truck but he cant afford something else so we need to figure out the problem soon .

Well I'm still having problems with this vehicle only now it is acting up more frequently . Ive replaced the internal wire harness hoping the problem was in the thermister the trans temp with a infrared is fine and I changed the valve body again to one from the above mentioned vendor Im still getting a p0741 regardless of all I do . My snap on scanner is showing Im getting the signal and all for lock up and the trans feels like it is in lockup then all the sudden the od light starts flashing and then no more lock up and I get the hard shifts from the Epc going high till I shut vehicle off to reset and start out again for about 5 minutes and then it happens all over again. is this possible the converter itself or some other unfound on my part problem Thanks in Advance for clues
