'99 XLT Ranger 4X4
Hi all. I'm new to the site as far a s posting, but have been using all the info here for a while... Great site, great people... keep it up...

Ok so, here is the deal. I have the 4.0L V6, 4X4... at a tired 170,000 miles.

I'm going to be dropping in a stock crate motor and would like some advice in two areas...

What simple modifications can I do to the engine before installing it? I'm not looking for super high performance, just some good, healthy, reliable power, as this is my daily driver. I haven't been able to find heads for the 4.0L... should I do lifters? Spings? Pushrods? I'm willing to work on the heads, although I don't particularly want to mess with the crank or pistons... although I could consider a new camshaft...

Any advice on some simple mods for a bit more power would be great.

The other question... while I'm down there, with the engine out, what should I service/replace in particular? Steering components? Clutch for sure... resurface flywheel? new flywheel?

Who makes the best aftermarket perfomance parts for the ranger?

I know these are a ton of questions... but when you are planning a motor swap, you just have to make sure that you remember everything... like motor mounts... transmission mounts... maybe new bushings and all that for steering components... Just thinking aloud here...

Well, let me know what I should consider and what options I have as far as performance upgrades...

Thanks for all of your help.

Again, awesome site, great community...

I'm in Northern California... Bay Area. Which leads me to another question... does anyone know of any good performance shops in the area...?
