Bill's Cylinder head exchange in Phoenix Az..

If I remember correctly.. it is about $150 a head to replace IF your cores are good..

If it is cracked between the valves.. you don't get anything for the core...

I had 1 head that was cracked between the valves and one that was cracked between water jacket runners...

They gave me $100 for the core with the crack in the water jacket.

If you don't have cores I think it cost an extra $200 each..

I ended up paying about $500 for my heads.. Since I replaced them, I haven't had any problems with the motor..

I replaced them @ 236k miles.. we are now at 274k miles..

Doug has the 4.0 heads for 350 or 375, and you can get springs for a cam installed for a few bucks more if you want to run a cam Rick.

If I was going to replace mine now I would get my shortblock rebuilt local, and try the heads from Doug, and add the cam, assemble my own kit- 2500 or so for a budget build up.

I looked around for a complete engine when I replaced mine- 150k clogged pick-up. I wanted to add the comp cam, and ended up getting a local machine shop redo and assemble the short block, and rework the heads(guides, springs) and I put it all together. I paid the machine shop something like 1300 for the short block and the head work. The cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers were another 800 or so, and 200 for gaskets& misc. so 2400 or so for my 30 over 4.0 with the comp cams 410 cam, new pistons, bearings, timing chain, oil pump, pick up- guides on the heads, springs, cam, lifters, rocker arms and shafts, and correct length pushrods. Its a nice combo for my daily driver.

If you want a bit more power with a cam change, and can do a little assembly it may work to get the new heads, and get your(or a core) shortblock rebuilt with a cam for your own engine kit. Time is the question.

Old thread I know but some of you guys may be interested in this info. I have watched their ebay sales and feedback for about 2 yrs. Last week I drove to Detroit and picked up 2 new motors not rebuilt. Roger and his Dad seem to be very good people. I would definitely recommend any kind of business with them they were great and came in on a Sat. to load the engines for me.

The OHV engines I picked up were unbolted right off of Ford's steel cradles and placed in wood crates to fit in the bed of my truck. The OHV comes with the manual flywheel bolted to it and if you need the auto fly they give both to you. They also have brand new SOHC engines but sadly sold the last of the 302's a few months ago and it looks like they won't be getting anymore in.
Just a heads up they only have about a dozen OHV's left....
I didn't ask how many SOHC's are left.

Hope this helps someone.

tell me what you guys find

im looking for a used motor, with X amount of miles to rebuild myself.

OR if you come across a place with used cylinder heads for less then $150 please tell me, im very intrested.

Rick, I got a set of rebuilt heads for mine nad it has run great ever since. I think they were about $200 a set with good cores. Mark might be able to correct me on price and he also may remember the name of the shop. Bobs Cylinder Head Repair maybe??

I talked to the guys at Sanderson Ford the biggest Ford parts distributor in the state. They told me that only 4.0L rebuilds are available no new engines.
Hi I like this idea would this be a good idea in my situation also?

Sorry for interrupting.
