I have a chance to buy a set of factory V8 99 manifolds from a member here and was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny that they will fit on a 96 V8?

I'm assuming you're referring to the exhaust manifolds. The '99 manifolds have an external EGR valve while the '96 manifolds have an internal EGR valve. I'm not sure if it's possible to get around this difference so here's a bump for you.

Plus, later model has P heads where the 96 does not. I don't know if the different spark plug location would make a difference or not on the manifold.

The "P" style heads came out in '97 so you don't have these heads. The GT40P heads have GTP cast into the head and have a very strange spark plug angle.

Since the 99 headers will not work does anyone have any experience with Dorman replacement exhaust manifolds?

Rock Auto has them for $130 but this place has a better description/photo.

interesting
they look very similar to the stock parts, but I am not sure they are, they look a little bit different. from that pic its hard to tell

What I am wondering is if Dorman made the manifolds for Ford or something

There are two basic types of factory manifolds for the 96-97.5 and 97.5-01 explorer 5.0L V8

the cast and the welded

both are crappy performance wise
both are crappy construction wise, although the cast seem to work better.

In 97.5 the 5.0L enging got the P heads, the non p head manifolds (96-97.5) will not work on the later P headed engines and vise versa

Ford Motor Sports made a explorer 5.0L "performance" manifold for a while, it was still questionable, big time

Torque Monster Headers is the only game in town for a bolt on header for your Explorer 5.0L that will actually free up some of those factory restricted ponies AND get rid of all your bad factory constriction /leak issues.

try searching around, it is discussed often here.
If you own a 5.0L explorer chances are your exhaust leaks, leaked, or is about to leak
