Hi, so yesterday I finally made a decision to go out and buy a new muffler. The one I have at the moment is completely rusted and there are too many leaks. Anyways this isn't the first time doing an exhaust job but this Explorer is really confusing. Is there any cutting required or is it possible everything can be done bolt on? For example, do I have to cut out the muffler before the exhaust flange and cut from the tailpipe too? I know that may sound confusing but I am still a noob with auto repair. I can try to get pictures later on tonight if it can be more clearer. Thanks!

Unless the muffler you bought includes the next pipe and flanges to bolt, you're probably going to have to cut it out on both sides, expand the pipe (or use a coupler), slip fit and add an exhaust clamp or weld it.

What he said. Welding is much better. Clamps have a bad habit of developing annoying small exhaust leaks over time as things heat/cool/vibrate.
