99 XLT passenger door lock wont lock

So on my 1999 Explorer XLT the passenger door won't lock via the remote, or by trying to push down on the button. There's some resistance. I'll have to take off the door panel of course but is this a common thing by chance? Anything to look for?

If your getting resistance then its time to replace the actuator.

Pull the door panel and disconnect it fron the actuator. You may have to pull the actuator out to disconnect it at least I did on my 88 F150. The lock rod should screw into the top of the actuator. Now I've never don this on my X just my truck but I can't see it being that different. The actuator on the truck was rivotedin so you may have to drill the head off the rivot.
