We have an 03 xlt explorer with rear air. Our problem is not that we don't have cold air coming out; the problem is the volume of air is very low on the 1 & 2 setting and okay on the 3 & 4 setting in the front. Also, and oddly enough, we have noticed in the winter that when we use the heater (and it works fine), that cold air is coming in from somewhere near the glove box area. I don't know if this is connected or not or if I have a vacuum issue. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have a blend door that's not moving totally one way or the other. I'm not sure if there's a self-test that can be done on these systems or not. I know some of the Chrylser products I've owned had a HVAC system self-test that would cycle all the blend doors and report back any trouble codes.

Had this problem on our '03. Blend door actuator went bad. Of course it wasn't covered under warranty. Had to pull the dash to get to it. Long story with this problem.
