a/c problem and ?

i have a 97 EB 2wd 5.0 with EATC and was wondering if it could be converted to manual a/c controls. i cant access the error mode and if i push the fan switch up to high it will only work on high untill it decides it wants to work on the other speeds and my a/c wont come on when in defrost mode,only on max a/c. i made a 750 mi round trip w/it only able to work on high and needless to say i froze my butt off most the time so id crack the sunroof and leave windows cracked to regulate temp. the EATC is $$$$ so id like to convert to manual a/c controls...if this becomes to much of a pain i think i may sell it. any input on the matter is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

I have same vehicle with EATC and it was freezing me out with air in summer and roasting me with heat in winter. Turns out it was either the interior temp sensor or the tube that routes interior air to the sensor to detect the interior temperature (had it done at dealer for about $400 back in 2005, so sorry I am fuzzy on details.) Has been fine ever since.
