A/C Problem

I'm new here and am having an issue with my '02 Mountaineer A/C. The door on the fresh air intake/recirculate vent broke and dropped down on top of the blower motor. I managed to remove the actuator and the broken door, but it looks to be near impossible to put it all back together without tearing out the whole dash. Any tips on how/what all I need to remove. Thanks in advance!

Anyone?? I fixed the door and now can't seem to get it to go back into the hole where it attaches to the actuator. I've been wrestling with this thing almost all morning. I can get it up to the hole, but can't get the little arm to go through it. Worst comes to worst, can I just leave it out completely until I can do without my truck long enough to tear it all the way out?
