On a recent hot day I noticed the A/C in my 06 Explorer was not getting the job done without being on "MAX AC". I bought a can of AC Pro and checked low side pressure via the gauge and it was at 25. Given it was 80 degrees and 80% hunidity, per charts, the target LP pressure was approximately 40 PSI. After adding the 18oz can I was at 33-34 PSI. I figured, in for a penny... So, I bought a 12 oz can and began adding while watching the gauge. It got up to approximately 36 after emptying the can. I never hit the 40 PSI I was expecting.

So, all is well, the A/C blows cold, but I got concerned about the high side pressure, since I had to add 30 oz total. I bought a gauge manifold and checked both high side and low side pressure with the vehicle running Max AC for at least 5 minutes. A steady 34-36 LP and 135-140 HP. The Ford service manual indicates this is in spec.

Do I have any reason to be concerned, given how much it took? It was still cooling before I added R-134a, so I assume no major leaks. And the LP and HP pressure seems correct. Just looking for a second opinion.

This is what I used:

it appears to have refrigerant, oil and a "system safe sealer".

As long as it's in spec, I wouldn't worry, but check your pressure again in a couple days and see if it's leaking down any. If so, you may have to do some trouble shooting to see where the leak is.

I agree, it sounds like you had a leak, but using AC pro may have sealed it for you. Like mentioned above, check it in a couple of days to verify the system isn't still leaking.

Thanks for the replies. I will check pressures again as suggested.
