Went to add 134a today since compressor was not engaging. Heard a hiss as soon as gas went in! Found leak in aluminum tube near bottom of receiver/drier. It is the line going into the bottom of the evaporator. There is a metal bracket around this line attached to the reciever/drier that gives it support. Pinhole rotted in this tube where black metal bracket holds it.
I'm going to try to cut out the rotted section and splice in a piece of line to replace it. If this doesn't work, it looks like the evaporator will have to be replaced.
Does anyone know if the evaporator can be replaced from under the hood or must it be done from inside requiring removal of the dashboard?
