A/C Warm on Driver Side/Cold on Passenger Side

Just noticed today that my a/c is blowing warm air no matter the setting on the driver side and cold/cool air on the passenger side. I have a 2004 EB Explorer. A/C has never been recharged. I have tried setting the lowest temp setting on the a/c panel and have tried both auto and manual. Fan settings can be adjusted. No change in temps. Is this a freon servicing problem or possibly something more in depth? If it is freon, can I use one of those kits or should I go to the pros? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if it's blowing cool air at all it's not a freon problem.

Thanks. I should say it is somewhat cooler air, not kickin' cold like it used to. I was hoping for an easy fix but it does not sound like it. Any ideas on what to troubleshoot or do I need to bite the bullet and take it in?
