Hello all. Been looking at the forum for a bit now and see tons of 4x4CM topics but none are quite the same as mine.

I have an 02 Eddie bauer with Advancetrac. I purchased it December of 06 and have had it in to the dealership 7 times trying to figure out why my advancetrac/4x4 will not work. My question is that if my 4x4 control module is bad would that cause the display to constantly display "Check ADVTRAC"? I know it causes the 4x4 lights to blink(which mine do also) and I also cannot engage 4 wheel drive manually or the auto. Just two rear wheels spinning if I give 'er while I'm on a slippery surface.

It was in my purchasing contract that the dealership would fix the problem but they are now giving me a very hard time about this but I'm sure I could get a new 4x4 module out of them to let it rest if this is the problem.

Thats all the info I can think of but if you need anything else just let me know and thanks a ton in advance.

Welcome to this forum! According to the lemon law, if you had to go to the dealer so many times about the same issue, and they weren't able to repair it, then they should either give you another vehicle, or a refund.

Yes I've thought about the lemon law thing but my wife loves the Explorer and frankly if they can fix it then I'd rather not go through the hassle. They keep saying its a wire that they fix but I think they're only disconnecting the battery so the Check advtrac display doesn't come on for a few days and calling it fixed. We got our first snow this week and this really needs to be fixed. Plus the dealership is now a 5 hour drive(minimum) from where we live.

If they did, they didn't tell me about it.

Edited to add:
I bought it from a Chevy stealership so any time they took it to work on it they would just fork it over to a Ford Dealer down the street and then they wouldn't actually know what was done to it. I tried to talk to the Ford dealership but they told me they could not tell me because the car was delivered to them by another party(Chevy Dealership). Argued with them for a bit but got no results.

I guess I'm really just asking if the "CheckAdvtrac" that the display shows is coming from the 4x4 Control Module? It has all of the other "typical symptoms" of the 4x4CM except in my browsing I just hadn't seen that one listed anywhere. Thanks again.

It *could* be the CM, or it *could* be a lot of other things connected to it. Without knowing what code is setting the Check AdvanceTrac warning, there is no way to know for sure what the issue is. Troubleshooting it is a simple matter of connecting an NGS or WDS scanner to it and retrieving the trouble code, then following the service procedure outlined in the troubleshooting manual. Any numb-nut at the Ford stealership *should* be able to pinpoint the problem in an hour.

PM me or e-mail me with your VIN. I'll see if I can figure out what the Ford dealership's been doing to it.

hi gijoecam,
brooklynbay replayed to my request for help with my transfer case problem. after installing a 700r-4 trans with a advanced adapter kit i cant get the transfer case to shift. advanced instruction said just plug it back in, but it needs neutral safety and speed sensor. i do audio video work and can read a schematic. I'm still having problems.
can you shed some light on the possible fix.

Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with the 13-54 cases... there are others here that are far more knowledgable about them than I am, so if you ask your question in the apropriate forum, I'm sure someone will be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Sorry I can't help...
