I have had my 99 for about 2,000 miles; it had 92,000 when I bought it.
I have had the engine tuned and the IAC replaced.

Yesterday the check engine light came on. Everything seems normal. The manual says to give it 3 cold starts and take it in for service if it doesn't go away. It also said it could be bad gas. I get the sense it is not an urgent problem. Is that right?

Would it be okay to run the gas out and see if that helps? It will be rather more than 3 cold starts, probably 10 or 12, but I don't see how else to determine if it is the gas. I sure don't want to do some damage by stringing it out though.

Also, when I did a search here (hundreds of questions, none quite like mine), I see recommendations to take it to Autozone for a free diagnosis. Do they still do that? Thanks.

yes they do. post the codes and im sure someone can help you.

Some auto parts centers do indeed offer free code scans, however, don't buy everything they say. Get the actual code(s) and post them here; someone will help you.

Good luck .......

Could be numerous things, run the gas out, refill, disco the batt for a few mins.
if the CEL comes back, as said above, post the codes

I'll fall in line, post the codes and you'll probably be glad you did
