ok so i have a 2000 explorer xls and here are my problems

1. my driver side lock and unlock unit stoped working. but my pass. one still works.

2. my a/c unit doesn't light up anymore.

3. my rear wiper blade motor also stoped working

my question is, what would case this... i've already bought another door swicth, one that comes with the door locks and also the window control but that didn't fix it, so i'm guessing it might be the wires. would that problem have anything to do with my a/c unit no longer lighting up at night and my rear wiper blade not working?

thanks for any and all help

Did you check to see if the door lock actuator works? That would be my first guess.

I think the heater control has a light behind it thats out

Does the wiper motor try and do anything? Does it make any sounds at all? Could be a relay, or the motor could haver frozen up. Be careful of trying to break it free. I tried this and broke the wiper arm clean off, with not too much force.

yes i have placed the switch on the pass side and it works... i'm guessing it has to be the wires or somehting else....

i'll have to find that light behide the heater control... i also noticed today that my light swtich doesn't turn on either... odd....

i ordered a new motor today... if i remember when i turned the power on to make the rear blade work the motor was dead... it made no sounds at all... but i wasn't sure if it oculd be due to the door lock problem...

The actuator isn't the switch, it's the electrical part that actually moves the locking mechanism back and forth. You could swap that to the other side to check, as you did with the switch.

no no the lock works... it unlocks and locks without a problem when i use the key fob... it's the swtich inside the car that is on the door arm rest that stoped working... but i think it is a wire issue as i've moved the switch to the pass. side and the switch itself still works... and when i move the pass switch to the driver side ti doesn't work... i wonder how hard it owuld be to rewire that switch???hhmmm

Ahhh, gotcha. I'd test the connector that goes to the switch for power. That'd be fairly easy to fix, you could grab the power form anything that has constant power, like the cigar lighter.

good point... i never even thought about that... time to buy a power tester :)

I have the same unlock (only) problem on my drivers side. I can squeeze the rubber boot between the door and cab and it works again.......usually good for a couple of weeks. I am sure there is just a corroded wire in that cluster of wires inside the boot.

I need to cut that zip tie off the boot, peel it back and locate the bad wire. Should be a simple fix from there.
