Hello everyone. My brother and his daughter both have Ford explorers, one has a problem with a low brake peddle and the other one runs but every couple of weeks it wont start, there are to relays she replaces and it starts right up but after a few weeks they go out again nobody can seem to give either one of them an answer. I believe the low brake peddle is probably a master cylinder but the other problem I have no idea hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks for any help I can get : )

usually a low brake pedal would be thr result of how far the pads/shoes have to travel to engage, so first check thoroughly how much pads shoe material u have left, examine your clearances and that the pads and calipers are free to move but retract only just enough to clear disc for running, if u have rear drums, check shoes,, check mechanism for free movement, and adjusters that are free and working, repair replace what needs it,, grease pins/sliders,drag your finger thru the bottom of your master cylinder,, igf u come up with a finger full of black goo, look to a good cleaning, blow out the lines,, brake fluid is an alcohol,, it is hydroscopic,, it likes water and absorbs all it can, over years it turns to goo,,u determine how much it can tolerate, but dont let it have too much,,its you and your dfamily riding in that car,, give yourself and ypour family every chance at a long and healthy life,, buck

Thanks for the response. My brother had his brakes fixed professionally he replaced the brakes and rotors while driving it home he heard noises and the peddle went to the floor' He called the people back that did the work but they said to bring it back on Thursday which was about 2 days away. They had no car so I suggested we bleed the brakes which cleared up the noise got the air out of the lines but he still has a low brake peddle' I told him it probably was the master cylinder and by looking at all the post on this site I saw someone with the same problem and it turned out to be the master cylinder. So thank you for your response. I love this site : )

For the relay issue, more info would help.

One way I could see that happening would be if the relay in question was the fuel pump relay and it kept burning out. A relay will burn out if it is overloaded repeatedly. The replacements may not be rated for enough current, or, the circuit may have a problem that is causing it to draw a lot of current. An electrical short or a failing fuel pump could both cause a lot of draw on the relays and cause them to overheat and burn out.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
