Hey guys I have an 86 bronco 2 stock other than a body lift/29 inch sx's.(right now)

I have a few questions about things fitting together.

First is a major question, I have a BDS 4 inch lift ready to go on the truck. I Have heard that the passengers side drop bracket gets in the way if i swap in the beefier Dana 35 out of my doner explorer. Is this true?

Second queston is can i run a 4 liter engine out of the doner x that is an auto and bolt it up to my manual trans or am i going to have trouble with vacuum and stuff for the engine

My last question(for now lol) is what should i do for gearing in this with the 4 liter/manual trans? I will be running 35s driving this truck street and wheeling it in my spare time but i do have my other ex as my street truck.

Thanks for helping guys like me out. I have learned alot from this site and never have been let down. thanks in advance for all your help. :salute: I am excited to start on this thing again:D

Do you have any pictures?

It depends on which type of passenger side drop bracket you have. If you have the plate that just drops the stock bracket down, then yes it will hit the axle housing once you swap in the Dana 35 from the Explorer. If you have a brand new passenger side drop bracket, then no it wont hit the housing and you will be fine.

This is the drop plate that will hit:

You need a passenger bracket like this so it will not hit the Dana 35:

The engine will bolt up to your 2.9's manual transmission, but it will not last long. The 4.0 has much more power and torque than the 2.9. You will want to find a M50D-R1 from a 4.0 to swap in. It is a direct replacement for the 2.9's FM-146 manual transmission. The vacuum will not be a problem.

At a bare minimum 4.56 gears. If you have something else to drive, I would recommend either 4.88 or 5.13 gears if you plan to wheel. I had a '97 Ranger 4.0 w/ manual transmission that I ran 4.56 gears and 35's on the street and it was great, but if I were to get off on a trail it would suck.

If you need anything else, just ask!:D

Sweet that takes care of it!

4.0L is right at home in a BII

Mjones pretty much covered it. I'd recomend 4.88s for 35s.

Thanks guys i have some pictues ill post up into the registry and keep updating it as my build comes along,

Ok my registry is up and running and i will upgrade it as i go. Let me know what you think along the way. And i dont expect it to last long just waiting to see whats available..i am excited to get back on this project
