You need to use a 2GB or bigger usb flash drive that is formatted as Fat or Fat32. Then you put the unzipped update on the flash drive.

The SYNC site should have all of that information.

According to the website it was not up to date and I down loaded the update and put it on a flash drive.... Went to do the update in my truck and it wouldnt even read the flash drive.... I'm SOL there :/

Did you unzip it?

I did.... I come to think for certain thing my truck hates me ;)

And it it 2gb or larger and formatted as fat or fat32?

Its not password protected or has all the usb manufacturer garbage on it does it?

Not pw protected and I made sure it was free and clear before putting the zip on it

What do you mean putting the zip on it???

The zip file shouldn't be on it. It should be unzipped.

You should have a SyncMYRide Folder and either an install.lst or autoinstall.lst file or both on the root folder.

The download I just did for a 14 PI Utility with SYNC has both lst files.

Was the zip file you downloaded named: Gen1v441buildEE309Fupdatefromv430FpackageRev2.zip ?

I mean putting the zip file on the flash drive... Yes it was unzipped

So when you put your flash drive in your computer and open it, it looks like this then....?

Steps to installing:

Before you start
There are a few things you should do before starting step 1:

Familiarize yourself with your vehicle’s USB port, controls, and display
Note any saved Navigation points. You’ll need to re-enter them after the installation is complete
To perform the following steps, you must first complete the previous procedure: How to download software updates to a USB drive
Take the USB drive with the software updates to your vehicle. Turn on your vehicle, and then turn on the radio.

Make sure your car is in a well-ventilated area. Your vehicle will need to be turned on, with the engine running between ten and thirty five minutes. Make sure that your vehicle is not in Accessory mode.

Plug the USB drive in to your vehicle’s USB port.

Press AUX until you select SYNC Line In. Press OK.

Press Menu. SYNC Media may display. If it does, press OK.

Media Menu displays, and then Play Menu appears.

SYNC USB displays. Press OK.

USB Selected displays. Press OK.

Prompts display. Press Seek until Install Applications is highlighted. Press OK.

SYNC automatically detects the files on your USB drive, and then displays “Install Application?” Press OK to confirm.

SYNC displays “Installing Application” during the process. Do not remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle while this update is in progress. Shortly after installation has begun, SYNC says “Installation Complete.” Ignore this message. It refers to a specific phase of the installation, not the overall update process. While the update is loading, SYNC will not recognize your mobile phone or media device.

In another approximately 10 minutes (timing may vary per update), SYNC says “Installation Complete.” SYNC may also say, "The system will now reboot. Please wait a few moments before using the system." The system then reboots, which takes several minutes. Do not attempt to use SYNC during this time.

SYNC prompts “Installation Complete.” Press MENU to exit installation mode. It is now safe to remove your USB drive.

Once you have installed the SYNC software updates, you’ll need to pair your phone again. To complete the process, take the USB drive to your computer to report the successful installation.

Thank you for the step by step!!! I did E-mail you a pic of the file on my flash drive :) Thank you so much for all of your help

Any update or did the above detailed instructions help?
When I did mine it was also automatic in it grabbing the file and updating on my way to work. Be sure to allow 20-30 minutes for the file to update once it shows it's updating with the engine running.

With my BT it shows that I have a device connected.. Which would be my Iphone 6.. However when I have incoming calls I have to use the actual phone in order to answer my call...

As far as the radio being able to turn on with out the key being in the ignition I'm talking about hours after the truck is shut off... usually 5+ hrs or more and this still happens :/

I don't have a USB option to select however I do have an AUX button.. I have my Ipod plugged in via USB but AUX is the option I have to select in order to use my Ipod... And again it works pretty much when it wants to... I have cleared out the settings as far as BT and what not and still nothing....

Thank you to all that have replied to my silliness with these lil things :)

Hi bknygurly,

I see you already got a lot of great info from the other members, and I'd just like to add a few things.

While you're connected to SYNC, go into your iPhone's Bluetooth settings and make sure PHONE is checked. If not, please select it. This will allow you to make and receive phone call via SYNC. Also, be sure you have the latest iOS installed on your iPhone. jrm provided an excellent link for troubleshooting iPhone Bluetooth concerns.

The power button will turn on your radio without the key, so it sounds like your Explorer is functioning normally.

For your iPod, you can use the voice command USB and it'll switch the source to your iPod. For a list of commands, check out this link:

Were you able to complete the update? If not, let me know and we can troubleshoot. :)

Rebecca
