I have been having trouble with the check engine light in my 94 X coming on lately so I extracted the computer codes. Assuming I did this right I got:

-Engine Coolant Temperature sensor out of range.
-Intake Air Temperature sensor out of range.
-Throttle Position sensor reading higher than normal.
-EGR not opening.
-EGR sensor out of range.

Which one should I start with? It seems to run just fine. The only time it really does anything is when you just barely start to give it gas, it seems to run real rough. I suppose it is also a little sluggish and could have a little more fuel efficiency. Anybody with any ideas let me know. Thanks a lot.

first thing i would try is cleaning the MAS, do a search and you'll find the information you need. when you finish that disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes then start up and see if your codes have been cleared and come back, if they come back, do a search on google or some other search engine and find out how to test the voltage on your throttle position sensor, if its not right, replace it, they usually sell for about $50 at Ford pay careful attention to how its taken off and put it back exactly the same or you'll have driving problems

EGR valves are a bit expensive, you might want to have someone look at this or if you know how check it yourself before replacing it

Dan, start with the first code. The first one is the most important, and the others sometimes disappear when the first is fixed. Assuming your list is in order, I would replace the coolant temp sensor. The engine could be staying in warm-up mode because of this sensor. This would explain the poor fuel economy and sluggish performance.

Check the electrical connector to the sensor before you replace it. Make sure it is tight and clean.

Yep!

Listen to Empty he,s puttin you on the right track.

Assume nothing!

Sounds like you didn't do the test right. Read that test section over again Sounds like your only real code is for an EGR problem

You thinkin

What I,m thinkin OPERA KO/EO test with out warm up?

Mo Guy: I have already cleaned the MAF so I don't think that is the problem.

Empty: Thanks for the advise. I wasn't sure if the order of the codes was of any concern. These were all engine off codes by the way. Are you suggesting that the Coolant temp sensor was the first to go wrong according to the memory? I will have to check that one.

Opera: I will check over the Haynes code book that I have but I am pretty sure that I did it correctly. The only think I didn't see was the 111 code that was supposed to be in there somewhere (or so I thought).

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Hopefully I can solve this problem before the drivability gets too bad.

Dan
