97 ford explorer sport
Ok here's my problem 97 sport sohc 98 5.0 from a mounty 97 ecu for a 5.0. I have all the sohc drive train out and everything is ready to go other than the 42 pin plug. I have already made a new harness for the altenator AC and oil pressure to hook up too the trucks round plug and I removed them from the 42 pin on the motor side. I hope to get the motor side to match the truck side:scratch::. Any help would be awesome as I am way behind in my schedule. Also if anyone needs 97 sohc parts or drive train let me know.

97 PCM is internal egr--different sensors than the 98 motor's external egr. The differences go all the way to and include the exhaust manifold.
Cam sensor is changed from 97 to 98, so, you will need the 97 cam sensor.

There may be other problems, for simplicity I would match tha motor and harness to the correct year pcm. This means you will have the pats issue to work out, but it can be deleted with a PCM tuner.

I understand what you are saying but what im doing is re pining. I cant buy a programmer right now and my local dealerships won't deal with pats. I guess I'll just keep going one wire at a time. I will just use the sohcs harness as a guide for the pins that go strait from motor to the 42 pin plug and then deal with the ones that go to the ecu plug. It sucks but its what I have to work with rite now.

Anyone have pinouts for these? That would at least save me the time of strippin out both harnesses all the way

Ok I'll try this again dose anyone have a pin out diagram for the square 42 pin plug goin 97 sohc on the truck side to 98 5.0 motor side? Pretty much done with everything else and just need this:scratch::

I have the ford shop manual and wire manual.. if it's in there I can take a look and snap a pic of pin outs if I can find them over the weekend.

That would be great I have one of the manuals from a ford dealership but its chasis and drive train no electrical

Didn't they change heads, cam sensors, etc. mid model year for 97?

Im gonna go with the 98 ecu I found a dealership that will kill the pats for me so now I just need to match up the 42 pin plugs. So im goin 98 motor side to 97 sohc truck side and I already pulled the alt. And AC wires out and made a harness to the 97s round plug and remade the starter wires to the 97s starter relay

Just spoke to the service mngr at the dealership and now he says it cant be done and I must be mistaken cause the pats cant be disabled ....wtf...now what. Any one got any ideas?

Pats can be disabled with a tuning device which has the proper files loaded. I suggest you pluck down a few extra coins to invest in a proper tuner.

Yea guess im gonna have to go that route or see if I can find another ex that still has all that junk in it ..but for now I still gotta figure out the 42 pin plug and tonight im gonna try to finish up the exhaust

if your still needing any help with your wiring, click on my registry. i did my swap in the winter and posted some stuff. it was from a 98 to a 98 truck, but i might help you out a little.

Thanks I have it running now but still trying to get the tranny to play nice with the mix match setup im using. I love your truck and whenever I see one of your posts Ive been checking it out. I kinda forgot about this thread cause I kinda hijacked test points thread about the pats fuel and wiring.

haha! now that i look, and see where your from , i was in milford earlier this summer. even made it to ocean city, and its funny cause i am wearing a shirt i got from there as i type this! lol

Hopefully I will get this thing back on the road and get it looking halfway decent again so I can take it to carlisle next year!

iirc it can be disabled with the WDS.

Dealerships around here just aren't willing to waste time helping people ( even local people who have shop accounts with them) so i have been working with what I have. If you wanna see what we have done so far its in the under the hood forum in the first thread I think
