Just thought I'd pass this along for guys who might be ordering something from Crutchfield soon. Specifically for '98-'01's with Premium Sound. When you're doing the Vehicle Selector, the last prompt will ask you what sound system your truck currently has(regular, Premium, or Mach/Audiophile). The problem comes in when you select Premium Sound. Crutchfield will automatically give you the 120 70-5008 adapter harness, which is a amp bypass harness for 95-97 models with the external amp. I guess they don't know that all 98 and up Premium systems had the amplifiers integrated in the head unit.:dunno: The correct harness is the regular '98 and up Ford/Mazda (120 70-1771). So, unless they fix the problem, if you have a premium system in a '98 and up, make sure they're sending you the right harness before you hit that submit button:D

To Crutchfield's credit, they sent me the right harness no charge and no questions asked, with many apologies. I didn't even have to send the wrong harness back. Anybody need an amp bypass harness:)

My 98 has an external amp apparently and premium sound. Circuit city gave me the wrong harness when I installed my headunit last week.

I have heard that some '98's still had the external amps. I guess it was a midyear change.

My 98 is an Oct 97 build. Maybe thats it? But I figured it would have been all 98 by Sep/Oct... Oh well, now I know and all is working great.
