I've had my first explorer or ford for that matter for about a week now. I got about 17mpg out of my first tank of gas. I got on the interstate today and it seemed like I had to wind it out to keep up with traffic (my speedo doesn't work) what rpm do you 5 speed guys normally run on the interstate? Just thought I would post my expieriences with my first blue oval :D

P.S. maybe its just me but are you all always hitting your coke bottles when you shift to 4th. just a pet peeve but sheesh:frustrate

At 65 mph, I'm getting about 2,450 rpms. Keep in mind I have 4.56's with 35's (my speedo is close as possible +/-2 mph). About 2,300 to 2,500 rpms is where you want it to be at 65 mph. If you are a highway driver the lower the better. Having it in the right power band helps when you need to accelerate and pass someone without having to drop it into 3rd.

I hated the shifter location as well. I installed the shifter extension after doing my 1" body lift and it is so nice. You could get it for a stock truck and adjust it to the lowest position. It puts the shifter in a really comfortable spot!
