I get a fair number of PM's on these issues. While they are covered in the "My A4LD Diary" in the Useful Threads forum, that is quite long and many prople don't read it completely before asking. I don't mind responding to those PM's but in the interest of helping others, here are some pics extracted from that thread on the 3-4 shift solenois issue and the governor issue. (Remember the Governor went away with the 4R and 5R series, so that part only applied to the A4LD (they also fixed the screen problem as well).

To get to the shift solenoid, you must remove the pan and filter. You will be presented with a valve body with seemingly a zillion bolts holding in to the transmission. This needs to be removed. It is important to remember what bolt size goes where. If you don;t have a manual for it, make a chart and somehow ensure the proper length bolt goes in the proper hole. I'll try and post a diagram here later in an edit.

Once you have the valve body off, you can remove the "keepers for the solenoids... here they are out...

Here is the infamous screen on the old solenoid (the replacement I bought off the secondary market did not have a screen. It cost $25. The FORD replacement "fix" was $175!!!.)

This can be cleaned and reused by using brake cleaner... here is a pic of that and notice how different a clean screen looks!
