1994 ford explorer 4x4
Ok guys I got a 94 xlt auto 4x4 I put in a tranny from a older explorer looks like it might of been rebuilt but my problem is I went to put in a new filter and it would not fit the valve body its got me scratching my head the one thats in it looks like a 2 wheel drive filter any thoughts why the new filter would not fit

Maybe the parts store gave you the wrong part. Or, maybe the trans you swapped in IS a 2wd trans that someone put a 4wd tail shaft section on.
 






You have a way to post a picture? would make helping you A LOT easier. Get you quicker answer.
 






Also, if it is in fact a 2wd transmission that has had the tail shafts swapped, you should be able to use your old 4wd pan, allowing you to use the 4wd filter. Just a thought.
 






Its got the pan but the new filter would not fit into the valve body
 






Is it possible that the sealing "ring" thingy on the old filter stayed in the bore when you pulled it out, and now there's no room for the new one to fit? Had that happen a time or two!
 
























Well the old filter was brand new so I just put it back in the only problem I have is delayed reverse engagement
