'94 Ranger 4.0 4WD
Hi, I recently dropped the pan on my '94 ranger 4WD mostly stock 138k miles and found quite a bit of metal shavings at the bottom of the pan, replaced filter and gasket and filled 3 qts. 2k miles later I added lucass oil conditionr to help a 2-3 shift delay and it helped for a few shifts. Then to my surprise the trans began taking 30+ seconds for first to engage or it just wouldnt engage at all. I then flushed that crap out of the system by draining a quart through the oil cooler and adding a quart through the fill tube with about 14 qts of merc 5 ATF but I have not changed the filter yet, could something have knocked loose and clogged the filter after adding the snake oil?
Trans takes about 15 secs to engage but 3-4 OD came back which is a plus, no other problems with tranny. Any suggestions as to what might have failed? I know this stuff softens the seals and can make leaks worse, I have done a lot of research on here but have not found any answers as to what possibly could have happened or where I should start.
Thanks for your time.

I would suggest that you should read the sticky thread called the A4LD valve body rebuild diary on the top of the transmission section. You probably have clogged passage ways in the valve body as well as bad gaskets.
