So I just swapped out an A4LD in my sons ranger, old one had no forward gears. Well, just my luck, I have no park in this one.

I assume there's something wrong with the parking pawl. Can I pull the tail housing off each trans and swap the pawl while the trans is in the truck?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

pull the tailhousing off your old tranny and note how the pawl and spring are oriented. I've seen a few with some slack, but not one with no park ??

are you sure the shift cable is adjusted right. this could be a problem, too. if your PRNDd21 points are in the right place, you probably don't have a cable adjustment problem.

Well I took the shift linkage off, and made sure the lever was moved all the way, same thing.

I took the tail off the old tranny, and I think it shouldn't be a problem to do it on the one in the truck, just might be a bit messy. Looking at the pawl I imagine it would take some force to break it, either that or maybe it is somehow messed up near the lever. I'm going to dig into it on Fri.

Thanks for the reply!

Rob
