ok, I rebuilt the valve body, added the transgo kit, replaced the modulator, took out the governor and cleaned it and reinstalled it, and Im almost back to square one. A little better. Now it wants to take off in 2nd unless I manually shift into 1st.when in OD it doesnt want to downshift unless I really press down on the pedal. Can anyone help? Thanx

Did you adjust the kickdown cable, and bands? Did you use a torque wrench on the VB bolts? It is sometimes necessary to use thicker VB gaskets on old VBs since they have more of a possibility of warpage.

yes I did use a torque wrench on the vb bolts. But I didnt adjust the bands or kickdown cable. Thanks BB, Ill try that.

The transgo instructions give a detail on adjusting the kickdown, try that... should take care of the kickdown problem in OD. The not starting in 1st sounds like a linkage or manual valve problem.
