What is the clearance for the pump gears for the A4LD? Mine has zero clearance. When I torque the pump to the bell housing, the gear get pinched and I can not rotate the pump. HELP

I original problem was I lost all pressure and when I took the pump apart the inner gear was cracked. This transmission was never rebuilt before that happening. The place where I got the new gear, said they have rebuild alot of A4LD and always use the TC the align the pump.

Unfortunately, there are shops out there which take short cuts, and the customer eventually finds out when they experience premature failures. The ATSG manual & the Ford manual specify the use of an alignment tool. As for the tools involved, the C3 which is compatible with the A4LD is Rotunda part # T74P-77000-A. I saw one incomplete (and overpriced) set on EBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Rotunda-Transmi...tZMotors_Automotive_Tools?hash=item2c51a718b0. Thanks, I think I will take to a transmission shop and let them put the pump in the bell housing.

Check the front bushing for excessive wear. There are only 2 places in the US that I'm aware of which are capable of machining a new bushing into the bell housing. You can't just pop a new bushing into place since everything has to be concentric. This link has more information: http://www.precision-technologies.com/_wsn/page2.html

Well, I found the problem with the pump being pinched when I torque it down. The problem was the pump plate. It was warped just so much. I got another plate and the pump works fine now. The clearance on the pump is .001 to .002. It appears when the inner gear broke it did damage to the plate.
Thanks for the help.
