I have a tranny problem from a 94 explorer that would not engage any gear. took it to the shop and they said the tranny needs to be rebuilt. i got it rebuilt and installed it with the same issues. the modulator is new from the rebuild. when i shift it into any gear, the linkage moves appropriately but nothing else happens. when the tranny came back there was some oil in the rebuilt converter and tranny. i only had to add 1 quart of oil to bring it up to the full level, which seems very odd to me. i have removed the tranny 4 times to check that the converter was seated correctly, check the inner shaft, make sure all was connected and now i am thoroughly LOST. i really do not want to remove the tranny again unless it is an absolute necessity. It has the same symptoms as it did when i sent it out which makes me think it might be a sensor, or some other problem. Anyone who might be able to shine a little light would be greatly appreciated.

phoenix trans did the rebuilt. not sure if they did the valve body. there is a warranty but i would have to take it out and send it back, wait 10 days to get it turned around. should have just done it myslef.

trying to figure out how the tranny works to try and troubleshoot it.

Contact them before opening it up. It might void the warranty to open it up. Find out if they rebuilt the valve body. You might just be able to send them the valve body instead of the entire transmission. The transmission does not need to come out for this. Read Glacier991's A4LD valve body rebuild diary, the regular diary, and Brain's Project Frankentranny threads which are stickies on the top of this forum for more information.

No movement in any gear is 98% of the time either not a properly connected manual valve to the shift linkage, or a pump issue.
