Looking for a thread or post on how install an A4ld tranny in a stock 93 Explorer. How difficult scale of 1-10?

I have a 4x4 and if you were to say 5 or 6 I may attempt it myself but I probably will leave this up to the professionals, just hard to trust anyone these days.

I pulled my trans pretty much by myself 2 + years ago with minimal tools and not even the above knowledge because I didn't search for it , its really not that bad . depending how much rust you have on the manifolds , its really not too bad at all , I had my last trans out last year in under 5 hours by myself with a small 2 ton jack and lots remembering from the first time lol .

So you do have to pull the exhaust manifolds off and also the y pipe along with the cross member?
I guess if it's going to cost me like $500 I may try and do it myself, or at least pull mine out and tow it somewhere along with my new one to save money in labor.

You do not have to pull the manifolds , but the Y Pipe makes it a lot easier to get the trans out , some people have been able to leave the y pipe but remove the catalytic converters and slip it over , I never wanted the chance of it getting stuck and then falling on me since I was mostly doing it by myself , if you get a 2nd pair of hands just to give you the eyes and to keep a hand on the trans during removal , you should be able to do it without too many issues , just try and plan ahead and spray all the bigger nuts and bolts with some pb blaster or similar penetrating liquid . you will need to make sure the motor is on a jack stand underneath the vehicle , and I used a block of wood to keep the motor from tilting back into the firewall .

Is the transmission the same in a 4x4 as in a 2wd?

Not Quite , The 2wd Does not have a Transfer Case, front drive shaft , Extra Wiring , So it makes a few less parts to remove .
