Ok i finally got an apt with a friend to install my new(used) trans into my explorer. My old one will not let me stay in park and i was driving on the highway tonight and i could start to feel it slip.I paid 175 for a A4LD with 83k on it..now to cut the cost of installing it i have to buy all the gaskets and trans fluid at my own cost(thank god shops charge way to much)...

Now my question is what Gaskets or What should i buy to install my new trans? Please Help..

What i Have got For it So far:
15 quarts of trans fluid
Trans filter and Gasket

I have a feeling that this is not all please help i have to drop the truck off on Monday moring with everything....

almost...

you have almost everything you need. go ahead and replace the front pump seal and the rear (output or extension housing) seal. also, a manual shaft seal (shift shaft) would be a good idea. replace the dipstick tube grommet with a new one if you can find one. :exp:

is there a gasket in between the engine and trans bell housing? is there any places in cedar grove to 4wheel i am new to hagerstown and have no clue were to go..lol

i just got my rig 3 months ago so i am still trying to figure this thing out

well....

as far as using the old torque converter, i dont see a problem with that, as long as you drain all the fluid out of it before you install it. note, it will probably take 12-15 quarts of fluid to fill the trans after doing this.

as far as placed to wheel in CG, there are a few places, none too intense, but you hafta know what you're doing. of course, CG is quite a bit away from hagerstown, bout a 3-4 hour drive.:exp:

anyone know of some good places neer hagerstown to 4wheel i can even drive a lil bit if needed i am new to the area and in baltimopre we dont got **** but streets to 4wheel on..lol

should the shop that a friend works at should they have to flush the cooler lines they are doing my trans swap out..i have to buy all the gaskets and fluid and if i change the pan gasket and filter before i give it to them its only going to cost me $360 to get it done..I hope thats cheap remember labor in Maryland is 65.00 an hour

The old torque converter probably has wear along with debris caught inside of it. It's impossible to clean everything out without cutting it open. As for flushing the cooler lines, they sell a cooler cleaner chemical in a spray can. You have to disconnect both lines, connect the tube from the can onto one line, then place a bucket under the other line to catch the chemical as it gets flushed out.

is there a gasket in the rear of the trans that needs to be replaced?
