A4LD Wiring Problems

Greetings from Germany,

My Name is Ulli im 29 Years old and i need your help. 4 years ago i bought a 88 Ford Ranger which was in catastrophic condition. I drove it until it was almost impossible because of stalling engine etc. At the beginning of the year Ive got time to start the restoration. The biggest Problem with the Ranger is the Wiring. It was cut, soldered, taped and no color runs through. I bought the Haynes Manual with all the diagrams but that's not enough.

that's my Problem:

the Transmission shifts great. Only the Overdrive comes a extreme late at 65mph. Ive got the 2pin A4LD without the electronic solenoid for the 3-4 shift.

the wire for the vehicle speed sensor and the 2pin plug for the converter clutch solenoid are missing. I have to build my own harness for these two connectors. The Plug at the main ECU has no pin at 53 which is for the

Please help me with finding the correct pins for the Harness.

Hello, I think I understand what you are asking. If you have a 2 pin connector on trans you will only have the TCC solenoid in VB. How many RPMs drop happen when OD applies? The TCC applied will lower rpms approximately 200-400. The OD on your model transmission is controlled by the vacuum modulator not electronically. You will not have pins, or wires for that to operate.
May want to pull the hose off the modulator and check for cracks or leaking fluid. Also check engine side of vacuum line for cracks. Make sure engine is producing enough vacuum. Good luck

Can you tell me how the overdrive is activated? Is it only activated when there is enough vacuum in third gear? Does the vehicle speed sensor or the clutch lock up have anything to do with it? Unfortunately the ranger doesn't have a rev counter so I can't say how much RPM is going down.

My plan is to check the vacuum hose going to the gearbox.

And to build my own wiring harness that goes from the control unit to the 2pin connector and vehicle speed sensor. I hope it works, I'm unsure because the connector of the original wiring harness to the pin has no cables. So I have to pin them myself. I hope that the control unit outputs the signal to the pin.
