Ok, first off, I did a search already. It did not turn up any results that were the same problem as mine (one was close, but trailer brakes and a 7-pin were involved). I have a hommade tralier I recently refurbished with a new deck, wheels, bearings, and lights. I bought a whole new kit for the lights, wiring and all. I have a '92 Sportie. I bought the vehicle specific (year and model) Hoppy connector that goes inline at the connector by the jack and tire iron. I tested at the 4-flat that is to plug the trailer into, and it works properly. I wired the trailer per the package instructions. Here is my problem(s):

1- running lights off, foot off brake = blinkers work correctly. They run a bit fast, but I have not yet put the heavy duty flasher in the truck.

2- running lights off, foot on brake = the trailer lights turn into 4-ways/hazzard flashers.

3- running lights on, foot off brake = lights work correctly, but VERY dim.

4- running lights on, foot on brake = light on trailer go out.

...what is causing this? I am going nuts trying to troubleshoot it because there are only so many possible things it could be. And I am sure it is the one thing I am missing (hence my post ;) )

Thnx for any help ya'll can give me.

If everything at the truck end is ok, then obviously a wire or 2 is crossed on the trailer. It's easy to mess things up when you have a bunch of wires, you just need to run over everything again and make sure any relays and multiple input lamps are wired correctly.

See if my Sketch I drew in Paint helps you any.....Here is a 4 wire system....

X trailer lights are a mystery to me.
Here is a link that may help.
http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/trailerwiring.html

When I spliced into the connector mentioned in the link above the wires that need to go to ground are orange, pink/yellow stripe, and organge/black stripe. doing this will enable the relays in the compartment in the left rear by the window washing fluid resovior.
Then the wire for are dark green=right hand turn, yellow=left hand turn, tan white=tail lights.

When I first tried to just splice into the wiring harness at the lights I was have problems like you, this solved all issues and works great. I have a 91 eddie bauer.
