This is an audiobahn a8000t amp. It pulls quite a few amps, outputting 800/1600 watts mono. When i turn my truck on, it goes straight into protection mode. I've already checked the ground, the power, the fuses, the rcas and the remote ignition and other suggestions on what i should do/check ??

You make sure it was getting at least 12 volts?

check the ohm load you are showing it

Also, along with this, what subs are you using..and how old is the amp

the amp is about 4 months old, the sub is the same. The sub is an aw1500q. How would you suggest checking the amount of amps its getting? The ohm load is correct, thanks

im not sure how you can measure that, im sure a multimeter would help you in anything your doing. When you checked your ground did u make sure that the ground is grounded on metal, not paint? Its its not completely metal, this could be your problem. Also, have you installed the amp before and it work perfect? If so, when uninstalling it did u tug at the terminals at all or did u have the amp not mounted? You could have possibly blown an output or capacitor on the acual amp.

Are you sure a standard multimeter would work if i connected it to my power cable it is a 4 gauge wire that pulls up to like 1600 watts.. The amp isnt mounted. The wierd thing is though, that the amp works occasionaly, like if i hit a bump, or if i just drive for awhile, it will turn on. The ground is fine, i sandpapperd all the paint off of it.

That sounds like you fried something inside of it, possibly an output and a connection is bridging.

Other than re-re-RE checking all your wiring. Try unplugging the rca's and make sure it's nothing on their end. Move the RCA's from the SUB out from your HU and try the signal from either Front or Rear (assuming you have these) Try taking out your remote cable, and jumping it off the 12v power wire - I've seen remote cables that people have pinched or cut somewhere along the line which = no working power on for amp.

You can check if the amp is outputting any wattage with a normal mutimeter - set it to AC Voltage and tap the speaker output terminals - even better if you have a peak hold feature. Anything coming out will mean the amp is working to some extent and there is a problem with your sub, or it's wiring. While you have the multimeter out - check out the voltage to the amps terminals, and the impedance of your sub. (As most have suggested)

Other than that - could be fried.

kinda like whats been stated, disconnect EVERYTHING except power, ground and remote turn on. does it come on and stay on consistently? if yes then connect your RCAs and try again. doesit come on and stay on consistently? if yes then connect you sub.

your sub might be shorting out, or a short somewhere in the RCAs of something loose in the amp. try it like i said to narrow down where the problem is and repost.
