Ok big problem.
I live in Australia, there are almost no 20's here and the ones they do have are crap. Also there aren't that many modded SUV's so the wheel markt for em is sh#@. I spent a lot of time with the idiot at the tire shop and ordered some 18 x 8.5. I said I didn't think the offset was enough even yhough they were a deep wheel the actual offset wasn't that deep ( you know what I mean ) what offset do I need AT LEAST to run some 18 or 20 x 8.5's.
If anybody can help you can.

well, id go with something somewhat mild, like maybe 20mm or so. you gonna drop it or leave it stock height? theres a couple guys with 20's around here, like bobby locs, and theres a bunch of guys over on explorerunderground.com, so you might wanna check them out too.

2k1exsport, i hate to tell ya, but it sound slike youre gonna need some spacers. youll have to wait until you get the wheels to see what size spacers youlll need.

good luck guys.

Nah I am going to leave it stock height, I don't realy want to use spacers, will I have to no matter what whel I get ? 20mm sounds pretty mild indeed, is that going to be enough to clear whatever I am hitting with these wheels ? Rubbing at full lock is one thing but I am not even clearing ( I don't know exactly what it is cus didn't look when they were doing it ) my wheel brace.
HHHHEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP !!!!!!

thanks for the reply tbomb. thats not the answer i was looking forward too :( but your right i have to wait and see. would you happen to my stock offset? one more question, could you clear up the whole offset thing? like how the numbers work, etc. thanks.

also what do you guys ( gals ) think is the best spacer HR? thanks

i used to know the stock offset, but for some reason i cant think of it right now - brainfart ;) maybe 12mm or 20mm or something, i cant think of it; itll come to me in time.

heres a thread with some great info in it and a great link in it also that will explain the numbers...

quite honestly, with 20" rims, and the various widths they come in, and tire sizes that im not terribly familiar with, i dont know if im the best person to ask about this. i could offer my advice, based strictly on number crunching and calculations, but theres always manufacturing tolerances that come into play, so if i were you, id ask someone who has an explorer with 20's on it. try a search for "20's" or "dubs" or something like that, and im sure youll find people who have them, i think i mentioned a few earlier. i just dont wanna tell you one thing, and then after you go and spend thousands of dollars, it doesnt all work correctly together, and then its on my shoulders.

good luck. id be happy to answer anything else though, or other related questions.

Thanks Tbomb
Nah man whatever I did would be on my shoulders, except almost buying those 18's from a tire expert when they weren't close to fitting that would've been on his shoulders.
Yeah I saw a black X with 20's on another thread guess I'll ask him.
Last thing does anyone know our factory offset.
Thanks guys more help than the "proffessionals"
Wish I was back home in the Dirty South

Thanks alot for the help. That tirerack page especially helped. Its so much easier to understand when i see the diagram because im a visual learner. Thanks again.

tbomb was right, stock offset is 12mm.

(every explorer wheel for sale on ebay has a 12mm offset.)
