I just buy a 2nd hand 98' XLS 4X4 explorer
It's really a nice vehicle

But the fuel consumption is a little hight to 24L/100km
I wonder if it is a reasonable fuel consumption?

Is it the V6 or V8 ?

24L/100km sounds quite high.

Mine's the V6 as well, I have a 96 with 181,000km on it.

I get about 16L for 100km, 14L if it's warmer and not wintertime.

24L sounds like a lot.

I need to make a inspectation right now.

heh.... must be nice.....

i get "about" 250-300km's per tank.... jeepers i wunder why.....

hehehehehehehe

I have a 99 limited 4.0 motor and the economy readout when driving in town averages around 20 liters/ 100 in town. It seems to use alot more fuel when warming up. When it reaches operating temperature the average drops to around 16-18. A mechanic who reprograms chev computers claims mfg run them rich to heat the converters if you have a faulty coolant temperature sensor it could allow the vehicle to run rich longer. He goes into the computer and reprograms them to run rich to a lower coolant temperature my friends 5.3 full size 4wd is getting close to 20 mpg city. I am waiting for his ford software and my explorer will be next on the list.

Ive had my 03 XLT Sport 4.0 V6 for a few months now and was getting
dead on 300 Kilometers per tank ( point were my fuel light would pop on)
I checked my tire pressures and they were all around 22 PSI, I have since put them all up to 32 PSI and Ive gotten 330- 350 Kilometers per tank now Most of my driveing is stop and go city with a bit of highway mixed in.

is my mileage good ? I say its not bad, On the highway i think id probably be close to 450 on a good straight highway run with teh cruise set at 70 kph. i donno whats everyone else getting on long runs with cruise set?

thanks
Dave
