2013 explorer XLT 201A
I have just signed up here but have been reading the forum for a bit since i decided to buy a new explorer a few months back. I have a few questions before i purchase and wanted to hear from the board.
I am leaning towards buying a 2013 2wd XLT with the leather package.....Priced out its pretty much at the top of the price range i was looking at but have been debating getting the 4wd upgrade. I wont be using it for any off roading and its mainly a family vehicle and the yearly drive to Florida. I don't have a 4wd vehicle now and dont really miss it. I a m in toronto and obviously we get snow, but I'm not sure if the 3k price jump is necessary. Any 2wd owners out there? how does it handle in snow?
Also, I am probably waiting till april to place my order...debating when the best incentives will be offered by ford. Should i wait for the 2014 to come and try and scoop a 2013. Im probably trading in my 03 altima and wont be financing thru ford. I just want the cheapest price on the vehicle i can get...when do you think the best deals are offered?
Hope i posted in the correct part of forum...any help is much appreciated..thx

Welcome to the Forum davicon.:wavey:
During the 50 years I have been driving, I have only had AWD/4WD for the past 12 years and now I don't think I'd ever go back to 2WD. I like the added stability it offers in all kinds of weather and conditions. It will also offer improved traction in slushy or snowy conditions which seem to come with little warning these days. It would also be a positive if you are considering the tow package.
I believe that production of the 2014 models starts the beginning of June.
Factory orders for the 2013 will cease to be taken April 12th. If you're looking to buy off the lot, dealers will likely want to start reducing their inventory during that time frame. I guess the trick would be to find a Toronto dealer with a lot of inventory in hopes of getting a better deal.
As always, the decision will be yours to make.
Happy hunting.

Thanks for the imput. I will not be getting the tow package as i have never and dont plan on towing anything.
I see you have a platinum tri coat....im debating between the oxford and the platinum white....but when i pull up pictures i cant tell the difference...i know i like the white ones i see around town, but which white are they?? lol
Thanks for the info on the order dates for 13's. Im planning on going to yonge/steeles ford for any of you Torontonians and i guess i have to order before April 13th if im set on a particular model.

I've got no intention of towing with my Ex either (the F-250 is for that)... Same for our Edge, but we have the tow package on both just for the extra cooling capacity and the receiver to hang a bike rack off of.

yea, my buddy has a dodge ram that we use for hunting...i dont want to muck up my new family car to go hunting or towing a boat. I'm not sure if i even want to let the wife and kids in it..lol. Although the tow package may come in handy eventually.

I can't tell the difference on my computer between the 2 whites either. I'm guessing that the Oxford may be a whiter white. The tri coat platinum seems to have a light shade of cream to it plus fine flakes in the paint. Hopefully the dealer will have one of each. Oxford is not available on the Limited. The Platinum is $300 extra here as well.

Yea... I'm thinking i will decide colour at the dealership....Really its down to 2x4 or 4x4 and when the best time to buy.....Im in no real rush but would like to drive it down to Florida by the end of June...
I was reading on here as well that there are no major changes coming for the 2014..maybe a few new colours and maybe new rims....
If that's the case and i can save a bit on the 2013 over the 14's then i will take it.
Thanks again Peter
BTW...no issues with MFT??? or with exhaust smell in cabin???

I've only ever had 1 re-boot with MFT......it has worked flawlessly otherwise.....
Absolutely zero exhaust smells from my 2012 EX Ltd entering the cabin (and I have an extremely strong sense of smell)

Also from Toronto here....everyone seems to favour Yonge/Steeles but I bought mine at Summit Ford and ended up getting a better deal.

I got the 4wd Limited for the same reasons mentioned above. Toronto weather and peace of mind for the wife driving the kids around

Thanks...i know people come here when they have problems and that its probably very few who have had issues with exhaust smell. I have 3 co-workers with MFT and only one has had an issue with it freezing.

Yea..wife and kids is my only concern as well...she hasnt had any issues getting around in her hyundai tucson and we don't get that much snow in the GTA....but i don't want to regret cheaping out in a few years either...

The only issue with MFT came after the latest update. A few times the radio would be OFF when I started the vehicle although it was on when I shutdown. Has happened about 3 or 4 times in 3 months. I just turn it back on. No issue with smells of any kind.
Good luck finding the one you want.

Hey davicon,

Let me know when you place your order; I'll be happy to keep you posted on your Explorer's status. Just send me a PM with your order number and dealer name once you have it. I'll get you the details!

Crystal

I can't give much input on the 4x4 vs fwd, but if you have been ok with the Altima so far I wouldn't see why you would be any worse off in a fwd explorer. As far as paint goes the Oxford white is a more bright white color where as the platinum is a nice metallic white with some silver undertone to it. White platinum is a very nice color on the explorer.

Thanks crystal..once i place my order i will PM you...i would appreciate that!:)

On a side note...was parked at work today and a co-worker that i don't know reversed into my parked Altima (pretty much whole side of vehicle damaged...he was driving a company vehicle (a tahoe) at the time... don't know if this is good or bad..lol
went to local body shop and it was $2760 for repairs and unknown damage to my suspension because its making a weird scraping noise when i go over a bump...(tire rubbing something?)...either way, im hoping that my employer cuts me check for repairs..then i will just trade in the vehicle damaged and put the repair money to the new explorer;)
The damage is going to lower trade in value...but its not worth that much to begin with....hoping this works to my benefit!
was hoping for $2000 on trade in..probably be lucky with $1000 now.
