Hiya all

I have a '99 Explorer fitted with a multi-point LPG system and I have had the engine management light on for some time. I keep getting it re-set and it's flagging up that it's running lean - I run LPG so assume it's that.
Anyone know how I can stop it coming on?

The ABS light is on and I managed to get the codes read but no answers as to what they actually mean. They read :
C1230 : speed wheel sensor rear centre input circuit ... and ...
C1102 : ABS acceleration switch current failure.

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,
I have to say my old ex ran on LPG and the management light was always on. Everyone I spoke to said it always will be as the nature of an LPG system is such that it will run slightly lean.

I know this isn't much help but at I ran mine for over 25,000 miles trouble fee so at least you know it won't go bang!

All the best

Nik

I'm not stalking, honest, I just happened to look in as you had posted!
The ABS light and engine management lights have been on since buying the car in December and I've covered about 12,000 miles.
It all runs fine, maybe the LPG could do with a service as it's a bit lumpy from time to time.
I am planning on selling the car so I thought I might just get them sorted.
I'll just list the points when I list it on Flea Bay.
Thanks for your feedback

If it is running a bit lumpy and you have lean codes then i would suggest doing the upper and lower manifold o rings. Yes you can get lean codes from lpg but this should be able to be adjusted out.

Thanks for the input.
I put the problem on the bike site I mod on to see if any of the 'Mericans had come across this.
They're not just into bikes :)

One reply I got was this ...

"You might have already tried this, but disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes, see if the lights come back on. My nephew, diesel mech., did this to my 04 F-150, fixed it. Same with my brother's Expedition.."

Anyone hear of this??!!

Same guy posted later ...

"Just talked to my brother, the guy that works on our vehicles is a tech at the Ford factory here in KC and ... says to disconnect both polls, + -, of the battery to reboot. Obviously if the lights come on after the reboot then start spending money"

I suppose it's worth a shot. BTW, it's not April 1st is it?
I'll try it AFTER I check I have the stereo code!! :)

I have decided to keep the car too.
I wasn't selling because of the lights, I was just considering a change.
Filling up with fuel tonight I decided I like big cars and I shall have big cars.
I'm too big for a normal car. Even a big normal car.
This is my 3rd V6 (Chevy pick-up and Cougar) and I've had 5 V8s (2 Range Rovers and 3 Yanks). Christ, even one of my bikes is 2300cc!!
When the LPG is running right, I look down all snooty-like that I'm running (I think I read) 25% greener than on petrol and 33% greener than if it was diesel.

Disconnecting the battery will clear the codes. The ecu will store codes and then under certain conditions light the EML. Now these conditions might be instant, like if a sensor is not giving the ecu a signal or might be after the ecu has read several instances of a reading being out of specified limits. With the abs it might be a poor connection at the sockets for the sensors or the sensors getting tired/dirty and so clearing the code may result in no more codes in this case. For the lean codes i suspect that after a few duty cycles the eml will reappear.
Now ex's of a certain age do suffer with lean codes even without lpg and it is usually down to the lower intake o rings allowing unmetered air into the combustion process. Should only take an hour if you have the kit (T30 bit with longish shaft and extensions and univeral joint) and are remotely handy. Search 00m12 kit fitting (this kit is the orings, a new front oil tensioner and oilway restrictor. Don't need the whole kit unless you have the old style front tensioner)

Cheers Jan
I'll give it a go :chug:

Oh and if you have the ford radio and don't have the code i will be able to provide you a code if you give me the "MXXXXXXXX" seria lnumber off the unit. I will take a couple of days as the code breaker i used to have only works on XP and i now have a laptop with W7 so i would have to dig out my old laptop and take it to somewhere with a monitor i can plug it into as the screen is knackered. Alternatively i might be able to find the link so you could download it yourself. Oh HERE it is

Cheers Jan but I found the code in the Ford radio instruction book.
I tried the re-boot thing and it cleared the engine management light but not the ABS.
