I have a 91 Explorer Sport. Just had the engine and Tranny replaced. Now the ABS light in the dash stays on. I replaced the brakes all the way around, including the rear wheel cylinders. Now i have a good hard pedal but, The light still comes on. I have also reset the computer with no luck. I took the truck to a friend of mine and hooked it up to a "Snap On" scaner, it says to replace the "dump valave" What the HE)) is a dump valve?
Knowning that the brakes are good, and that it stops on a dime, Should i even worry about the light? Or is this something that goining to end up biteing me in the butt?

By "dump valve" I'm assuming it means the pressure distribution block..It regulates the amount of force applied to the front and rear brakes.I is located under the vehicle, inside the frame member, beside the transmission..metal block that has metal brakelines intering and also a wire connector..This is the place to begin your quest for a fix..

Had the same problem with my '92 Sport. It is more than likely the RABS (Rear wheel Anti-lock Brake System) valve. I took mine to my local dealer and it cost me $265 to have it replaced. Most of the cost was the valve itself. Must be a fairly common problem since my dealer had the part in stock. Definitely replace it or you won't have functioning ABS, and we all know our Explorers can use all the help they can get in the braking department.

Before you go and replace the RABS valve, did you completely flush the system when you replaced the cylinders?? My '92 Sport also did the same thing, and the cause was excessive water in the brake fluid. We got the same code as Dbirl528, but after we flushed the system, the light went out about a week later. What happened was the RABS valve is on a dead end part of the system, so the valve doesn't get flushed when you purge the system. After a short while (1 week in my case), the new fluid mixes with the old and the system is happy again.

If that isn't the problem, and you need another valve, my '92 got totalled in January, and I can sell you the valve real cheap :)

No, I just bled the rear wheel cylinders. I attempted to bleed the front calipers today, started to strip the bleeder so I stopped and sprayed it down with P.B.Blaster. Gonna let it soak overnite, then try it again.

You might also want to check the relay in the computer. We've got a '94 that has a bad relay and gives us the same problem.

You might want to take it to Monro or Midas and have them power flush the system. It costs about $20.00 but does a way better job than you can do at home. Besides, you should replace your fluid about every 50k for proper maintenance.
