I'm not quite sure of the protocal for questioins, but here goes! I recently had some work done on my 94 XLT, which included replacement of my upper and lower ball joints and new inner and outer seals and bearings. Immediately upon picking up my vehicle from this "w/e mechanic", I noticed I had extensive brake pedal travel before I am able to stop. I have researched this problem to death and have come up with the following: I either have a front ABS sensor and/or excitor ring issue, or my power booster needs replacing. Am I close? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm a newby to this site so all your patience would also be appreciated! I thank you all in advance.

If it happens during normal braking then it is not related to the ABS. The ABS only operates when a wheel locks up during braking.

Brake Booster - Could be, but did it coincidently go bad when they worked on the ball joints? Probably not.

Soft brake pedal will be a symptom of air in the brake lines, 9 times out of 10. But, to do the ball joints, they would not have to disconnect any brake lines. Was any brake work done along with the ball joints?

My recommendation is to call the mechanic and explain to him that the brakes are too soft and see what he says. You will probably need to have the brakes 'bled' meaning that air bubbles need to be flushed from the lines. But, please do not tell him this diagnosis. Tell him the brakes are too soft and you feel they may be dangerous. Let him take it from there and make his own decision. Mechanics, really all professionals, prefer to find things out for themselves rather than being told how to fix something.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason I'm on this site is because the guy is now conventiently hard to locate! Prior to my taking my XLT to this guy all the braking system was working fine. Now i'm up a creek and trying to determine the issues on my own. Thanks again.

Got a buddy that knows how to do brakes? It's not a big job unless a bleeder screw is stuck. Well, we just won't go there.

Different subject, you should have an alignment done after ball joints. Did he happen to have an alignment rack? If not, that's a priority before you mess up your tires.

Back on! After alot of thought, I decided to give the local brake shop a try. Hopefully all my concerns will be dealt with soon. Thank you all for your suggestions. Sure i'll be back on site soon!
