ABS kicks in early does yours??

I almost had another accident this winter and said the He** with it and dis-connected the ABS, I simply dis-connected the two plugs coming from the ABS unit itself .

Wish I would of done it sooner .....

When I check a master cylinder I simply do this :

Take the car to a level parking lot with car in drive and ideling forward apply breaks slowly until the car stops, then hold the pedal steady, the car should not move
( or start to creep forward ) . if it does then the master may be loosing pressure......

In time, when they get really bad you will get to the point where you have to pump the breaks a couple of times while waiting for a red light.

Thank you for the info.

I will try it later today.
And I will let you all know of the outcome.

I had that problem and it was fixed by replacing the bearings. The Abs sensors are inside the bearing so replacing them worked for me

i have the same problem, how much did everything cost you?

I know this thread is getting a bit old now, but I do have a similar issue with ABS, but if I hit the brakes hard at low speed the ABS doesn't kick in (correctly) but if I brake gradually just before the vehicle stops the ABS operates then I press the brake a bit harder and it stops fine. Now the it passes the mentioned master cylinder test and it has just passed its MOT with brakes tested on a dynamometer, but the rear discs were replaced, might it just need bleeding or is it likely to be the ABS sensors ?
Any thoughts please....

You need to clean the sensors on the hub bearing assemblies, I had this issue on my '03 Sport Trac until I cleaned them. You can use compressed air or a high pressure car wash hose.

I have this same problem and if i press the brake all the way in then release it works fine again and sa ething it only does this when easing on the brakes. Could that be the actual abs sensor or maybe the abs system just needs o be reset?

I've not investigated the fault any further yet, but it doesn't cause any driving problems. However I've got a cheap ABS brakescanner from ebay, it's an Actron CP9449, does anyone have a diagram to make a lead to connect it to the OBD II on my Explorer ?
