My Ex's ABS light is on all the time. I've been reading all I can, but am finding no answers. There's a great write up by BrooklynBay on the 2wd model.

Im not in a hurry to pay the dealer to read the code for me.

Even after pulling the battery cable the abs light is still on, even though I have not taken the Ex out of park. Doesn't this rule out bad front hub assy's?

I'm thinking it might be cheaper to replace the front hub sensors and rear speed sensor than to go to the dealer for a code read.

If you purchase hub assy's do the sensors come as part of the assy? I have 230,000 kilometers on my poor old girl. Wondering if I should do everything.

I'm just not sure what direction to take.

It would be worth at least calling them to find out how much they would charge to diagnosis it. ABS equipment is not cheap whether you get it from Ford or aftermarket. You could replace the sensors, and have it turn out to be the module. That would not be good.

90% are the rear sensor. Easy to change. Front sensor is built into hub

Thanks guys, I'll try that first!

So, I will see the sensor on the rear dif?

It's on the driver's side of the driveshaft, toward the top of the pumpkin. You can't miss it.

Jack up the truck and support from the frame so the Axel hangs down. A mirror will help if you work from the back. 10mm bolt holds the sensor in. Clean the area well, and spray with brake cleaner or WD40 to clean the area. (any dirt left may fall in the sensor hole in go into the axel.) Be careful when removing the electrical connector as the plastic becomes brittle and the clips can break off easily. Mine did and I had to use small ty-wraps to hold the connector together.

Also, my sensor was jammed in tight. Best to wiggle it back and forth and pull at the same time. Mine broke, and left a metal (thimble) shaped piece stuck in the hole. I was able to remove that by putting my finger in and pulling it out while twisting.

Thanks for this! I'll get a sensor on order.

FIXED!
Thanks so much for the how to. Found a sensor on ebay for $40.00, it was in exactly the location you guys said it would be. 15 minute job, and the job was done. I didn't have to pull the battery cable or anything.

I am going to try that with mine. Hope it works. Thank you all.

Thanks for the info. My son and I will work on it this weekend and I will report back.

same issue on my 02 Mustang GT and a friends F-150 and my 96 x..i have never owned a ford with an ABS light off

Great thread - my light is on too and I have to get the back brakes serviced so probably will put in two new sensors at the same time back there.

Jim, only one in the rear dif.

The front ones are in the front wheel bearings.

My ABS light has been on since 2009. It has stayed on even after front hubs have been replaced twice. I just put on a rear Motorcraft VSS and the light is still on. Oh well, can't win them all I guess.

I tried the new sensor in the left rear. The light went out but when stopping the ABS would start pulsating when stopping. So I put the old one back on, light came back on but brakes stopped pulsating. What's up with that?

Another problem is the cold air blowing no matter what the temp set in the truck. I can change from vent to floor to defrost to auto etc. with no problem so how can that be the blend door? I found the door but didn't have a tool to reach it. Thermostat is ok as far as I know because temp has been normal on the gauge since the truck was new. Any ideas would be appreciated.
