Check the brake fluid level first, then you may need to check for codes.

how do i check the codes do i have to buy a scanner or is there another way

ABS codes require a special scanner.

I'd also verify the ABS Fuse. If it was off before, then it's on now, they might have blown the fuse somehow. I don't know why, but it could explain why it's on.

i checked fuses and they ok guess ill have to buy scanner and or argue with garage i also noticed a pulsating pedal can that be the abs it wasnt doing that before inspection either :fire: thanks for all the help

My ABS light went on and off and back on shortly after I bought my 03 while I was travelling across the country. I took it in and they replaced the rear axle speed sensor.

garage said that light wasnt on when they moved it outside guess i got to buy a scanner thanks for all your help

The pedal should pulse when abs is active.

i believe an abs scanner is quite expensive and NOT something in the ordinary at-home mechanics toolbox. You may want to bite the bullet and take it somewhere to at least have the code read - THEN decide if you want to make the repair (likely a sensor) or not

thanks made appoinment to have checked out will post outcome.

mine came on while going from SC to OK while i was in Arkansas last night. gonna have to be in Oklahoma for a few weeks but i dont want it torn into while i'm here. it makes it through the self test when key is first turned on and stays off but will come on in an hour or so into the trip....the system sounds intense, speed sensors, modules, etc...

On my '00 5.0 I've already had two replaced (or one replaced twice). Over the weekend I was pulling in a spot with some deep snow and it went on again. I turned the car off / on and it seems to have gone away.

The sensors seem to have problems when they get wet. I guess Ford might not have realized that there is a slight chance the tires will get wet when driving a truck

Autozone has a scanner.

I believe Autozone has a handheld scanner that they will do for free. At least the one in Benton Harbor, MI will do it. Just an fyi.

I had the right front sensor going off which was making my brakes pulsate. Had a local shop replace it for me and it took care of the problem. Evidentally this is a common problem.
