First, I would like to say thank you to the forum. I learned how to replace the front and rear bearings on my wife's 2003 XLT and it worked great!

Second, I found the video series at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aieqpQjRqK8 and and used them as a guide to replace the ABS sensor on the rear pumpkin of the same vehicle. It did take two tries to get the right sensor, but eventually I got the right one.

Following the video I checked for continuity from the wires that came from the engine, on the positive side I was good, on the negative, no go. I also checked the old sensor and got no continuity while I did get continuity with the new. So my question is, what's the next step?

Is there a part in the engine compartment that needs to be replaced? Is the wire bad? I would appreciate any advice y'all could give.

Thanks,

the best method is to ID the sensor that is out. Dealer can for $$$ but also a brake shop can also for a little cheaper (half). I know when i did my fronts i dropped the wheel bearing during install, it tugged on the wire enough to break it. Sure enough it posted a code ( i had laptop software that could pull 'C' codes) that said RF sensor out. Had a spare sensor so i was able to fix it right there. I didn't try and ohm it out so i don't know what the readings should be sorry.

Plan B in reading a lot of posts through the years, most common to least common is:
Master Cyl Switch
Rear ABS sensor
Then either Front sensor.
after that it gets tricky, module, harness etc, most common are the sensors/wires.

Thanks JR!

I guess I will have to find a shop to pull the code for me.

Check an Autozone , they have a new machine that can pull the brake codes for you. Wish they had it when mine went out.
