Just bought back my 1995 explorer 2 days ago, was my First car.

Anyway now my ABS light is staying on, sometimes if I re-start my car, it goes away temporarily, then comes back on as I drive. I am not experiencing any ABS use while the light is on. Does it mean I need brake pads? Or is my sensor bad for some un-known reason?

EDIT: It is cooler tonight, and the ABS sensor is no longer on. When it hit 70+ is when I noticed the issue. I find that odd. Any ideas? Need help!

My ABS light comes on periodically and stay on for a few days and then be off for a few days. I haven't made any panic stops when the light was on so I have no idea if the ABS is working then or not. I suspect it's just an issue with the sensor, maybe just needs cleaning. Since I'm not crazy about ABS I haven't been in any hurry to check it out.

My brakes are working fine in normal braking, no issues there.

today ABS engaged randomly while driving, scared the crap out of me, but ironically the light WASN'T on, then came on afterwards.

Real wierd.

How much is the fix?

check all your abs sensors first.

Just have the abs code pulled. That'll point you in a better direction then just checking all the sensors.

what does one do to check the sensors? I'm mechanically stupid...

Did you check the ABS rings on the axle shafts?
