I'm glad I love my Explorer.

Last week I replaced the thermostat housing to get rid of the jet engine in my engine bay. I can't believe how loud it was now that the cooling fan isn't working overtime.

This week I'm planning to tackle my rear ABS rings following instructions in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO5iB5woNLk

This looks like a really common problem so I'm guessing that a few of us have done this before ...

Do I need a special tool to push the new tone ring on? Do I need the special tool? Can I rent from a local parts store? Can I use a large plastic pipe?

I have done it and you need some type of a tool.
I used home made wood box and I heated the ring at the same time.
Without any tool, it's going to be difficult.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like I'm in for some fun. I searched online last night and couldn't find the "pusher" tool. Looks like I need to call the dealer to determine what the tool is so that I can place an order.

Yeah, that tool is nice, it will really help, but it may be ford specific thru dealers only.
With it, it will be 2 minutes, without it 30 minutes if you are lucky.

Why did a leaking thermo housing cause the fan to run overtime?

I probably could have gotten away with replacing just the thermostat. It came with the housing so I just did it all.

Dealer says $380 and a few days to get the part. Still trying to find the part number and get it in time for this weekend

The tone ring is about 10-20 bucks.
You mean the tool is $ 380 from the dealer.
For that price you can get it done and save yourself a hassle.
Some of those 15/16 bolts are stubborn.
