I have heard that the ABS applies the brakes gently when it is raining. I can feel my car pull to the passenger side when it is raining periodically.... could the ABS system be overdoing the wipe? This only happens when it is raining FYI and when I am going 30+mph

I haven't heard of that before. I don't think the abs system works that way, you may just have a little more water on the edge of the road that makes it feel like it's pulling. I could be wrong, but that's a new one to me!

I don't know why people say this.

NO - the abs system does not wipe the brakes in the rain. does your car have a rain sensor? why would it only apply on one side?

you're getting a pull because depending on tire treads patterns and and speed etc - standing water will cause more drag on one side or the other. Some tire slice through that easier than others.

Yep! That's physics for you OP.
Also, the brakes would apply on specific wheels if you lose traction on a turn.

I'll sit partially corrected.

while I know that most cars have electronic brake force distribution - IE instead of just an on and off of the brake line hydraulc pressue to each individual caliper - the newer systems have a variance range (think 100%, 80-40%, 20-0) so as to gently apply one wheel and fully apply the opposite.

this is helps fine tune braking in various conditions and it helps find tune stability assistance programs. the newer explorers definitely have this.

but pulsing in the rain - it seems Cadillac and BMW are the only 2 that readily come up as still advertising this feature - it is tied to if the wipers are on, or if the car has rain sense (for both bimmer and caddy). it requires that cruise be off, the car is over 20mph, and throttle position is above a threshold. I don't see audi nor mercedes or anyone else still advertise this. No other GM product advertises it, and no ford product does wither. There is mention that jeep grand cherokee's might do something similar with similar requirements.

So I suppose some companies did implement this and it is limited in use, and strict requirements. Note none of the systems appear to be active upon cruise. Also I see where the GM ABS system new software (some cars built after 11) have in the algorithm cases for damp rotors and distribution and timing changes tuned for those cases. IE not so much dry the rotors, but rather, if the brake reaction after X miliseconds isn't _______ or >, then do __________ and ____________ and test again.

I have to assume other systems do something similar.

I don't know why people say this.

Does everyone have to say only things you can understand?

does your car have a rain sensor?

Actually, the OP has a Limited so YES, they probably do have a rain sensor. On the front windshield. For the auto wipers.

Only if the OP has the 302A package. Limiteds doesn't come standard with the multi-purpose camera that is used for rain sensing wipers, auto hi beams, and lane assist.

NO but there is so much miss-information on the internet and various non-sensical mythos quoted about cars and the like.

Also no - just because the OP has a limited doesn't mean he has a rain sensor on the car as auto- wipers aren't standard.

AND as I mention later in my post just because you have auto - wipers doesn't mean there is any interface linked to the ABS system. AS of today there are limited car that so this and even those manufacturers that implemented the system - don't use the system on every model they make.

Kind of like generalized statements about diabetes. T1D isn't caused by overeating.

indeed - like saying guns kill people.

no people kill people.

Well, for starters...

I wasn't questioning your assessment of the situation, but rather your delivery. I think you're taking yourself way too seriously.

"Miss-information." Is that a woman with the last name of 'Information?'

"Non-sensical mythos." How did we get on the topic of the supernatural?

Dude (dudette?)....chill. No one appointed you king (or queen) of the forum. If you have something to share, tone your arrogance and self-importance down a few notches. If you're concerned about "why people say this" (when asking about the ABS system being linked to some sort of brake-drying system) maybe it's because people ask about it because it's a reasonable question for folks that know little about cars (which is a lot of folks). Try sharing your wisdom with us in a way that fosters good-natured conversation and information sharing.

honestly - quite fair.

Think about it people . . . With a name like "Napalm" he(she) HAS to say something incendiary!

The OP never said if they had their cruise control or wipers on, or if they have the options in question, we're still missing some data here. It must have fixed itself since they never responded to anyone's comments.

the only system info I can find for an ABS system that does clear wet rotors doesn't come active with cruise on or speeds over 20mph-30 mph.

oh and I'm a meat popsicle.
