**************GIVEN UP ALL HOPE. NO INTEREST. THREAD IS POINTLESS.**************
Alrighty guys, haven't posted in a while but I've been doing a lot of reading. Here's the plan: SAS using a Dana 30 from a YJ. For the time being this will be my daily. It seems like no one yet has figured a way to get the ABS to keep working when they do this swap, so I'm hoping we can figure out how to.
I've been doing research and there seems to be two suggestions that I haven't seen definitively tested nor confirmed as a non-option.
1st, someone suggested splicing the abs wires from the front into the wires running to the back sensor. I'm concerned that the sensors might not be all getting the proper "pulse" as I'm not sure if the PPR (pulses per revolution) for the fronts and the rear are the same. I understand that this won't work as well as the original system, but it could be better than nothing.
2nd, it has been mentioned that Explorer hubs (2nd gens specifically) can bolt up the the Dana 30 steering knuckle, but that the axle stubs are different? I haven't been able to find much on this though. One thought is that this may work as a way to keep your ABS, but will leave you 2wd. For some, like me, this will be fine for a while (yes, I'm planning a 2wd SAS).
I am starting this thread taking into assumption that the people wanting to keep the ABS are using it as a daily or for some other reason want to keep their ABS. Also, please keep this on topic. We all know that the Dana 30 isn't the strongest axle. We understand that it's kinda pointless to go lifted with a solid axle swap and to stay 2wd. And many of us know that ABS can be annoying while driving offroad. Lets keep those opinions aside though and focus on figuring out this ABS riddle for those of us that might want it.
