Does anybody have an idea what could be causing my AC clutch to go On for on second then Off for one second, and so on.... I read that it might be some coolant level sensor or something. Where is that and where can you get a replacement. I had the system leak tested and recharged at the begining of the summer and only two months later it's acting like this. Thanks for the help guys. This board has saved my A$$ and my wallet numerous times.

Randy,

The constant cycling of the compressor is due to low refrigerent level. I would be willing to bet you need a recharge. Mine cycled on and off about every 20 seconds at idle, I recharged it and the problem is now gone. Since you just had this done 2 months ago there has to be a leak in your system somewhere.

For the recharge, you can get a kit at Wal-Mart for $25 made by Interdynamics that includes everything you will need. Can of r-134a (1 lb.), tap for can, filling hose and a pressure regulator. The pressure regulator is critical so you don't over charge the system. You can also use this system to add r-134a with dye in it so you can detect were the leak is.

Good Luck!

You may want to try checking for leaks again. It does sound like your charge is low, and after only 2 months, sounds like there is a leak.

Thanks for the help guys. I baught the air conditioner charge kit from Walmart and the pressure gauge said that the pressure was too higt (70psi) I lowered to the recomended range from the kit (20-45psi) to 40psi and had the same problem. Is 40psi still too high or could there be something else I must check? Thanks

Mine was doing the same thing, so I had the system recharged and nothing happend. Soon there after my compressor just died and I had to redo the ac system, not cheap either my total cost on that was like 1200. So it might just be your refrig level or your compressor might be dieing too.

I don't suppose they have one of these kits for R-12 systems do they?

Nope, sorry. No R-12 kits anymore. You need a license to even buy R-12 now, and it's very pricey. Last time I checked the going rate was around $50/lb.
