2004 explorer limited 4X4 w/4.6 V8. We just got this vehicle last week and love everything about it accept when you push the accelerator to go,it's like it dosen't respond for a couple seconds and then it takes off like a shot rabbit. We are trying to just get accustomed to this and not worry too much about it,but this is hard to do.Just wondered if there is some kind of adjustment to help this problem. Thanks

Yep, the 2004s and 2005s are throttle by wire or electronic throttle control (ETC) as Ford calls it. The dealer can reflash the PCM to improve this but it can't be completely eliminated. Call your dealer service department and ask about TSB 04-26-20.

Please forgive me for asking a foolish question, but what exactly is reflashing the pcm. This sounds like it can improve many symptoms. Thanks

basicaly it resets the computer.. in this case it has an update in the programing for the shift points

My 04 does the same thing and bugs me !!
Ive driven my dads 02 which has a throttle cable, and the difference is like night and day.

I wonder if it could be converted to a throttle cable with parts from a 02/03.
How would that affect the computer? Im sure it would throw codes.

I think the throttle bodies are different......My Moms New 05 has this same issue....I love these forums....
